Racing

KSC offers race training sessions focussed on slalom. They are a great way to push your skills as a skier forward and challenge yourself. Whether you are 7 or 70, we want you all!

Session times are Saturdays 1900 – 2000

(Session times and lengths may vary depending on other club activities).

The skiing is set at your level and everyone can improve. We have everyone from skiers of 7 still in a flying snow plough through top teen racers to the older skiers in the 50+ area and still looking to improve.

Race training is a mix of skills based work such as work on core form skiing, posture and timing; using drills like tik taks, no poles skiing, 100 steps, pole plant drills, short swings, inside ski skiing, one ski skiing; and practicing using stubbies (short poles about shin length) and full race poles in courses.

Competition

We race as a club at Pendle through the winter season, normally the first Saturday of the month. This is based on teams of 3 or 4 with a variety of age categories, under 10, under 13 , under 17, 17 – 25 and under 99.

We also have a club race day late in March and Inter-Schools Race evenings for Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.

Progression

For those wishing to take their competitive skiing to another level GB SKI offers a full range of races. Start by trying the Club National and Excel races and move on to GBR and eventually Championship races. See below for details about progression in ski racing.

Regional Races: These are a great way to get started in the sport of alpine racing. These are slalom races with occasional dual slaloms and they are suited to all ages! If you want to start your career, make some new friends or get back into racing then find your region and look for what races are going on in your area. If you aren’t already a member of a club then joining a club is a great way to get moving in alpine racing.

Club Nationals: Club nationals act as the gateway to alpine ski racing. Organised by volunteer-run clubs, they're incredibly fun days of ski racing, giving young and old skiers the chance to experience ski racing for the first or hundred and first time. If you enjoy taking part in the club national races, then the next step would be to enter the regional races and the GBR Series.

GBR Series:  A great stepping stone for ski racers looking to progress their skills is through the nationwide GBR Series. Each year, the GBR Series involves 10 ski races - 5 taking place on dry slopes and 5 taking place at indoor snow domes. This gives young performers the chance to hone their skills on both surfaces, whilst racing alongside some of the best ski racers in the UK.

The series is partnered with the British Ski Academy and involves Snowsport England, Snowsport Wales and Snowsport Scotland, and if you'd like to follow the race series and find out more information, visit the Facebook page here.

English Alpine Championships: The English Alpine Champs is the pinnacle event on the UK alpine ski racing calendar, with over 400 competitors battling it out in Slalom, Giant Slalom and  Super Giant Slalom in the beautiful Italian resort of Bormio. To find out more on the English Alpine Champs here.

To compete in Club Nationals and the GBR Series you need to be registered as a competitor with your Home Nation.
