What level of skier am I?

Don’t be tempted to move through the lesson levels too quickly.  Its important to build on a wide range of basic skills before moving up a level.  Within a full season at Kendal Snowsports Club most of the listed activities will be covered in each lesson level.  These skills are best practised in our open sessions on Thursdays and Sundays to improve. Lessons help the skier to understand their areas of development.

Beginner - Never skied before or at least not for many years

Intermediate 1 - Been on one ski holiday on Green and Blue runs only

Intermediate 2 - Been on more than one holiday and ski Green and Blue runs

Intermediate 3 - Had many holidays abroad and in UK, ski Blues and Reds with confidence

Advanced - Skied for many years, more than 10 ski holidays and ski Blacks with confidence

What will I learn in a beginners lesson?

Fit your own boots and prepare to ski

How to carry skis safely

Appropriate warm ups 

How to put skis on - One at a time and take them off

Put one ski on and slide about, then both skis on

Slide down upslope for first easy slide

Side stepping up slope, slide down, repeat

Balance skills such as ‘catch a ball’, Head, shoulders, knees…..’

Straight runs from first get off, focus on posture and fun

Use of rope tow

Straight run with skis in a plough shape

Wiggles the develop turning skills

More turning skills

Use of poma tows

FIS rules of conduct and your responsibilities

Conclusion of 10 plus lessons - Allows skier to go on a ski holiday and move around mountain, rather than in the village on beginners slope

This lesson will accept intermediate 3 skiers into this lesson

The above activities are not exclusive to each level.  It will depend on overall level of lesson, rate of development within lesson and ability to add additional focus to different skiers within same lesson.
