Skiing

At KSC we offer both recreational (open) and freestyle skiing sessions for members who want to get some practice in. On Sunday mornings between 10 and 1pm, the top part of the intermediate slope is closed off to allow beginners, progressing beginners and those still nervous, to practice their techniques without the fear of other skiers coming through from above.

Recreational sessions are meant to be easy going, sociable sessions where members can keep in shape for skiing or boarding and practise what they have been doing in classes. If you are not a member why not try a taster?

Please read the slope rules before coming along to your first open skiing session and remember that you have to be a member to attend an open skiing session.

Instruction

Ski instruction at all levels is provided by our volunteer team of instructors. They are all professionally qualified under the direction of Snowsport England and our instructors are in continual training to stay in touch with modern developments.

Check our Times of open sessions and classes and our Prices page for current fees. To book, please send us a message via the form on the contact us page or turn up and take pot luck on the night!

Children’s Ski Lessons 2014/2015

  • 4-7 years of age. It is a prerequisite for children 4 to 7 years old wishing to join a beginners class that they should have mastered the use of the rope tow. Once it has been confirmed that this has been achieved the children would be eligible to join the waiting list for ski lessons. Beginners classes are normally run on Saturday mornings with a class size of twelve.

  • To facilitate the 4-7 year olds using the rope, coaching may be provided on Sundays during the open skiing session. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to these open sessions.

  • Beginners, 7 years and over. Children will be allocated a place in a beginner’s class based on priority on the waiting list.

  • Experienced skiers, 7 years and over will be allocated to an appropriate class subject to: an assessment, priority on the waiting list and space being available.

  • Children from Friday evening classes wishing to join Saturday classes are required to join the Saturday waiting list and acceptance into a class will be based on ability and space being available at a suitable session.

  • All children will be expected to work towards an appropriate level in the KSC five star awards scheme. To record progress parents are invited to buy the UK Snowlife Ski Awards booklet and have achievement signed off by their instructor. Snow award level 3 or above needs to be signed by a UKSS level 2 instructor or above.

  • Note in the classes some children may be working towards a different level in the awards scheme.

  • If for whatever reason a child is not able to meet the standards required by KSC including ability or conduct they may be invited to withdraw from the class and a refund will be provided for class fees paid in advance.
